Golf Putting Tips – Try These Simple Suggestions to Putt With Better Accuracy

Every golfer, no matter how long they have been playing the game or what level of a pro they are, needs to work on putting. Golf putting tips are everywhere you look but as you read them, you become more and more confused. Some pros have offered some golf putting tips that will help you putt with the best accuracy as possible.

  • They suggest that before each game you should practice a few puts. You really aren’t trying to put the ball into the hole but rather in the right direction. Pay more attention to your swing and not as much on making the shot. This will give you a little insight into how fast the ball is going to run on the green.
  • When you are practicing your putts, just putt from about 6 feet or closer and do the easy putts. You shouldn’t be concerned with making the long shots as if you start missing the long shots your confidence will suffer. You just want to get a feel for the green and getting the ball in the right direction.
  • Confidence will have a great deal to do with your putting. The key to playing golf is confidence.   • One of the golf putting tips is to do this drill. Situate five balls about a foot from the hole. Proceed to put each ball in the hole. Now take the balls back out and situate them a little farther away and then put them in one at a time. If you should miss the putt, you will start over again at the one-foot distance.
  • Try doing some drills with hitting the putts closing your eyes. This will help you focus on the how you move and how the club swings. It’s an awareness drill and you will be surprised as to how well it works.
  • Out of all of the golf putting tips you can pick up, practice is probably the most important. You will get a better feel for it and the more you practice the better you will become.

Awesome Golf Swing Takeaway Tip

I’ll never forget the time a few years ago when my brother in law Steve explained to me how he discovered a major break through in his golf swing. He describes this golf swing takeaway tip as “lightning in a bottle”…the true holy grail of golf!

Steve told me he had been sitting at an 8 handicap for about 4 years and was getting very frustrated at his lack of improvement. He practiced diligently however he had truly reached a plateau in his golf game.

He went through about 4 golf pros during this time and every one of them told him there was nothing wrong with his golf swing. Eventually he started playing less and less golf and was about ready to give it up altogether.

Steve said while on vacation with his family he was browsing through an old book store on Martha’s Vineyard when he came across a used copy of Joe Dante’s “Four Magic Moves to Winning Golf” written in 1972. He said he couldn’t put the book down so out of courtesy to the store owner he bought it.

Steve showed me the book and as I leafed through it I was amazed at all the beautifully drawn illustrations showing how to swing a golf club properly. Andy Brown has since revised this book for the 21st century and offers many media formats to read or listen to the book.

Steve turned to the chapter that explains “the early backward wrist break” and told me this one magic move has totally transformed his golf game! He went on to say how golf pros never tell you HOW to break the wrists during the backswing for whatever reason. Steve believes the first 18 inches of the backswing are the most critical.

Most golfers fan the clubface open early in the backswing causing them to swing the club way too much to the inside…this knocks the swing off plane early in the backswing. Golfers then usually spend the rest of the golf swing trying to adjust so they can just make contact with the ball…not a good recipe for success!

The book goes on to say there should be no open or closing of the clubface early in the backswing…if you correctly perform the early backward wrist break your swing will be on plane early in the swing…Steve says he feels like the club is swinging itself…a truly effortless swing!

I am happy to say that my brother in law Steve is now a scratch golfer, thanks to this one magic move that has transformed his golf game!

When you make the backward wrist break perfectly – only one knuckle of your left hand (right handed golfers) and two knuckles of your right hand should be visible and the golf club should be parallel to your target line.

3 Great Putting Tips

There is and old saying in golf, “drive for show, put for dough”. And how true it is. You may be great off the tee, but if you cannot put consistently, then your game will suffer and your scores will blow out.

Putting is very much a confidence thing. If you are not confident, then you have no chance of sinking those important putts, and the dreaded three put will regularly appear on your card.

But confidence only comes with practice. If you refine your putting stroke, then your confidence will improve, and your scores will improve. But how do you improve your putting game? Well here are 3 Great Putting Tips to help you. I have used these tips and have improved my game as a result of practising these tips:

Tip 1

Concentrate on taking the putter head back square, then returning to square at impact with the ball. Assuming that you have accurately determined where you need to aim your put, it is almost impossible to putt accurately if the putter head is not square at impact.

Tip 2

Practice before each round. Start with short putts of say 1 to 4 feet in length. Do not move to longer distances until you feel comfortable with your short putting stroke. This is a very important tip, and one that really helps me. I find that if I don’t get my stroke correct for the short putts, then any problems will be magnified over longer distances. So, start short, then gradually increase the distance of your practice putts.

Tips 3

Take a slow, short back swing, keeping your arms straight (imagine them as a pendulum). Don’t break your wrists. Then follow through, ensuring that your putter head moves through the ball and ends up about shin high. This will help you to gain consistent distance and feel with your putts.

So there you have it. Practice these three tips and your putting stroke and confidence will improve.

Is there anything worse than the dreaded three putt just after you’ve hit the green in regulation strokes? No there’s not. Improving your putting can be a lot more simple that trying to fix a nasty slice and we’ve brought you five tips from the pros to help you do just that:

  • Jeff Ritter from the Karsten Golf Academy in Tempe in Arizona brings us the 8-second countdown method. It makes sense. When you’re standing over the ball – and ready to putt – don’t take more than 8-seconds. You’ll end up losing your momentum and random thoughts will creep in that have nothing to do with the putt. For example, what did you forget to buy at the supermarket? Before you know you’ve gone two foot wide. Just putt the thing!
  • How about this putting tip? Close your eyes! Yep, don’t look at the ball. The general idea is that by concentrating on the hole you stop worrying about the golf ball. Sounds like it’s strictly for the professionals.
  • Pam Wright, who’s played for 15 years on the LPGA highlights the benefits of learning to stabilize the lower body during a putt. The great players each had their techniques for doing this but you may have never noticed. Didn’t you notice Jack Nicklaus clenching his knees together any time he putted?
  • The next essential putting tip seems a tad on the obvious side but you’d be surprised how many people don’t bother. Squat down and have a look at the shape of the green. You’ve seen the pros padding around the green and lifting up the putter to their nose. They weren’t doing that to smell it. The idea was to work out if the golf ball would swing to the left, or the right or just go straight.
  • Here’s another blindingly obvious tip. Watch the putts that your golf buddies are making. If they happen to be on the same line as you well that’s great – you can “read” their putt all that much better. But again, you’d be amazed how many golfers forget this most basic strategy.
  • And of course don’t forget, none of the above tips will be of any use if you don’t have a decent golf ball putter in your bag

Golf Ball Striking Tips – Improve Your Golf Swing Today (Part I)

When a talks about “ball striking,” they are simply referring to the full golf swing. A golfer who is said to be a great ballstriker is really just a golfer who has a great overall swing. Here are a few golf ball striking tips to help your golf game, but first let’s separate myth from truth.

The Myth

Prevailing golf wisdom says that one must maintain their spine angle throughout their golf swing in order to have consistency. This myth can be traced back to when the sport of golf first started being played, and has resulted in more harm than good for most golfers.

Why It’s a Myth

For one, it is a difficult concept to really grasp. How many people really think about what their spine is doing outside of when their back hurts? Secondly, the fact is the spine does move during your swing, and quite a bit actually. When looking for golf ball striking tips, many people come upon this one. The most important thing you can do, is ignore it altogether.

Where to Focus

Instead of focusing on your spine angle, focus on keeping your forward bend toward the ball constant. You form this angle initially when addressing the ball and reinforces how important setup fundamentals are to your golf game. Here are some golf ball striking tips to help you do it.

Addressing the Ball

Start by bending from your hips, making sure not to bend from the waist. When you bend properly, an imaginary line coming up the shaft would intersect your spine on a perpendicular angle. Your side bend is almost as important as your forward bend at address and should not be ignored. Ideally, your spine should tilt away from the target slightly to the right by approximately 5 degrees. If you are not bent to the right at address, you’re bent left, and that is not a good place to be.

Maintain your Forward Bend

You will have major swing issues if you change your forward bend, either by lowering your torso toward the ground or rising up toward the sky. If you are rising up on the downswing, you have a much higher risk of hitting the ball thin or putting too much weight on your right side, usually leading to slices. When addressing the ball, imagine your head resting on a wall. As you swing, try to maintain contact with the imaginary wall. This will help to keep your forward bend intact all the way through your swing. If you practice these golf ball striking tips, your golf game will improve before your very eyes.

Putting Tips – Some Simple Putting Tips That Will Really Help

One of the issues with weekend golfers is that they do not get to practice enough. However, when they do practice they go out and pound a bucket of golf balls and accomplish absolutely nothing. This is not the way to get better at golf and most of us know that. We use our putters more than any other club in our bag and that is why you need to practice with it more than anything else. Here are some putting tips to help you on the greens.

Tip #1 – Line your eyes up with your intended line over the ball

When you address the ball you want your eyes to be lined up over the ball and on your intended line. They can be just a little bit inside of the ball if you want, but they absolutely cannot be outside of the ball. To find out if your eyes are lined up correctly just hold a golf ball in between your eyes, line up, and drop the golf ball. Wherever it lands is where your eyes are lined up.

Tip #2 – Keep your head still

Most amateurs find that they have inconsistencies with putting and they often times are linked back to what is called rocking. This is when you are using more than just your shoulders to move the putter. Usually this is caused by not keeping the head still. You can work on this by setting up against a wall with your head and taking putting strokes. This will keep your head still and you will form a habit of it eventually.

Tip #3 – Line the ball up with your sternum, in your stance

You should not have the ball too far forward or too far backward because it will effect the angle of the putter face at impact. You should be able to draw a straight line down from your sternum to the ball when it is in your stance. This is where it needs to be and it needs to consistently be there every single time you putt. This is one of the better putting tips that will be able to help those that pull or push putts on a regular basis.
